Still waiting for Torchlight 2's release even though Diablo 3 is a month away?Īnd we're at it again, but with changes. I hope they do wait to release the game a few months after May 15 so that people can give the game a chance. Torchlight 2 is still a game that needs to be explored since it still looks like a solid RPG, it's just now is not the right time for it. Heck people still play Diablo 2 up to this day! I wouldn't be surprised if the third installment has a longer lifespan than it's predecessor. Lets say they do wait a couple of months before releasing Torchlight 2, the thought of comparing the game with Diablo 3 will definitely be there in each gamers head, so hopefully they blow us away when they release the game because I don't see Diablo 3 being shelved after 2 months. Even with its $20 dollar price tag, it won’t be enough to earn a successful release. Going head-to-head with Diablo 3 is just suicidal, even going through the peak of the game’s hyped after a few weeks will be hard to get gamers attention. Even though the game is all set for release, waiting for the hype to die is their best bet. If I could give Runic Games advice, I’d tell them to wait 2-4 months after May 15. But not all is lost for the young hack and slash series. It’s a hard sell now with Diablo 3 on the horizon. A missed opportunity. I was even betting on Guild Wars 2 to come out first, but obviously I lost that bet. Blizzrard took so long to give a release date that people were already throwing out jokes around the internet about the games long development. Fill the void until the big show starts really. They could have easily tapped into gamers that were waiting for Diablo 3 to come out. I'm sure some of you were on the same boat at the time.
Why do you ask? Well because just like me, I was patiently waiting for Diablo 3’s release but was always seeing TBA(To be announced). I believe the best time would have been 4 months ago, around December and January.
With Diablo 3 slated for a May release, when is the best time to release Torchlight 2? Well that time was a few months back. Runic Games now has the ball in their court. So with that in mind, exactly when to release Torchlight 2 is key for success. Runic Games have been working on the Torchlight sequel for well over two years now, and I'm sure they feel the pressure now that their biggest competition has a release date. If they do come out in the same month, we know the clear winner. Calling a clone might be a bit harsh to describe Torchlight 2 but that’s just the truth.

It was built around what made the series great and can easily be called a clone at first glance. On one hand we have Diablo 3, the latest in the Diablo series that started the point and click lootfest gameplay on the other hand we have Torchlight 2, a game that is pretty much an offspring of the Diablo games. Sounds a bit unfair, in a way it's like having a kid go against its father. Why go Torchlight 2 when you can get Diablo 3? No, really. They are both point and click loot fest RPG's so It's a hard sell really. With Diablo 3 coming out in a month, Torchlight needs to wait a couple of months before releasing.
